Don Ross Don Ross
As well as being a fine artist Don spent years as a creative executive for large advertising agencies, mostly in New York City. He worked on accounts such as AT&T, Frito-Lay, Merrill-Lynch, IBM, Clairol and Time Magazine.

He earned his Bachelor of Arts at the acclaimed Art Center College of Design in Pasadena and has studied and taught art, writing and filmmaking around the country. He is also the co-author and illustrator of a line of childrens' books. Don's paintings have been shown in several galleries around the country.

The only subject matter Don has ever painted is faces. "I paint emotion," he says. "I compare it to young lovers who spend a lot of time nose-to-nose staring deeply into each others' eyes. They see into the depths of one another, into each others' souls. Try it yourself, put the tip of your nose against someone else's, look into their eyes and describe your feelings. You can't capture that in a landscape."

Don's work on the faces of Native America is influenced by the photography of Edward S. Curtis who travelled the American West 100 years ago. Curtis moved up the West coast from tribe to tribe carefully recording their pride and all he saw. He wanted to document those people before they were wiped out. Many of them were.
